The estate
The estate is located in the commune of Fontanès (the Hérault, département 34), around 20 kilometres north of Montpellier, in the heart of the terroir of Pic Saint Loup.
The estate consists of a single piece of land of 80 hectares, including 32 hectares of vines. On a terroir of clay and limestone scree, the terraced vineyard, facing south/south-east, forms an amphitheatre composed of different plots carved out of the scrubland at an altitude of between 125 and 230 metres. Here, nature is everywhere.
The place is amazingly unspoiled, offering a unique interaction between rocks, plants, vines and woods. Apart from vines and olive trees, the vegetation is composed of different, typically Mediterranean species: evergreen oaks, kermes oaks, Aleppo pines, strawberry trees, juniper, thyme, bay trees, prickly juniper, rosemary and rock roses…
Although Pic Saint-Loup (658 m) and the Hortus Mountain (520 m) dominate the landscape, the average altitude is around 150 m.
